An ID Card Printer for your Precise Need – A Zebra Printer
By SafeCard
If you are a new company or one that outsource your ID but would want to buy one of the ID card printers you see in the internet, so that you can do the printing of your employees ID cards yourself, which one will you buy? Or more precisely, what criteria will you use to help you decide which brand of printer, say a Zebra printer and of course the model you will acquire?
Buy or Outsource?
Are you a new company? If so, one of the first things to consider is whether to buy your own badge printer or not, before even thinking of which of the id card printers you will acquire. The following are the questions that you must answer to help you in making your decision.

Security Level
Does the level of security that your company needs require that you have an access control system? This means that your company has within its premises sensitive areas or information that there is the need to fully control access to them.
Security then must have the control on who will be authorized to access which areas within the company premises; or file, or files, containing certain types of information in the computer information system. The data will then have to be reflected in the access control database. This then could necessitate the acquisition of your own photo ID system.
If the level of security your company will implement is not really that critical, you can think of outsourcing the printing of the ID cards, as it may be more cost effective that way.
Other Considerations
- The number of cards to be printed. If your company is a big so that you have to print a big number of cards that runs by the thousands, then it might be more cost effective to buy your own card printer, say a Zebra printer.
- Is your company in multiple locations? If so, then either the professional or the enterprise editions or equivalents will be best for you as this will require networking among the offices in those locations.
- Which business are you in? If you are in the card outsourcing business, then there is no question as to whether you will buy or not. You have to buy.

Which to one buy
Having now decided that you have to buy one, the question now is which one to buy.
- The card design. If the items of information will be accommodated on one side of the PVC card, you likely would need a one-sided card and so an entry level one-sided badge printer.
- Card volume. If you are expected to produce volumes of cards, you would need more than an entry level printer. This is especially true if you are in the card outsourcing business.
- Security level required within the company. Again this must be considered. You might need contactless smart cards and because of this, one capable of handling RFID imbedded PVC cards, could be best for your need.
Balance your requirements
Acquiring id card printers costs money. And whatever business you are in, minimizing cost without sacrificing the need of the company, will be a good guide in your decision to acquire which type of card printer or a Zebra printer that will meet that need.
